Amanda from 100 Layer Cake
My dear friend Amanda Dawbarn is a founder and the Creative Director for 100 Layer Cake, a top resource for today’s modern bride. Her own wedding (and honeymoon!) was featured in Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine, where she designed everything from the invitations, to the patterns on her dinner napkins.
What are the best places to honeymoon right now?
Amalfi Coast: Picturesque views everywhere you turn, lots of Limoncello to sip, and beaches that look like THIS. Sign us up!
What does 100LayerCake look for when choosing photos?
We look for over-the-top wedding decor, such as hanging floral installations, a creative wedding backdrop, or stunning wedding portraits in a beautiful locale!
What is your suggestion for making the most of your wedding photographer the day of the wedding?
Giving your photographer a shot list of the key moments you’d like him or her to capture is always helpful!
Is it worth it to get engagement photos?
Yes! At 100 Layer Cake we love seeing creative engagement photos, and it’s good practice getting comfortable in front of the camera for your wedding photos.
What's going to be the big color for the fall and winter?
We’re seeing a lot of rust and earth tones mixed with a soft blush for fall. We’re crazy about that palette!
On today's Instagram takeover we have Darcy Co-Owner and HBIC of @SeascapeFlowers. She works side by side with her mom/founder at their boutique flower shop based on the California coast line. Inspired by the natural look of nature Darcy says 'We rely on our local seasonal greenery to create effortless lines and use their beautiful textures and colors to give our arrangements a “done undone” feel.' Get your flower questions ready ladies, Darcy is at your service! 💐
What types of flowers are you seeing for fall?
I love dahlias, protea, mums, persimmons and pomegranates in the fall with all the good fall textures and foliages 🍂 And you cannot forget bittersweet!!! So messy but sooo worth it
What is the biggest spend on flowers for a wedding? It’s a 3 way tie between bridesmaids bouquets, ceremony decor and centerpieces.
What is the biggest impact you have seen florals have at a wedding?
I’m a sucker for a dramatic ceremony backdrop. It’s he first thing that guests see when they arrive and it sets the tone for whats to come
What color combinations are in season for this winter?
Im loving whites, blushes and lime greens with winter greens. Think amaryllis, hydrangea, anthurium and pine
Should I spend money on the alter for flowers or the tables?
Splurge on the alter! It’s in some of the most important pictures and should be something memorable. I also like coming up with creative ways to repurpose ceremony floral elements to get more value out of those blooms 😉
To help enhance those textures I love bringing in moody blooms! All of the pretty sepia tones and sun washed blooms bring warmth and depth. These combo roses and cappuccino roses are great examples of what I'm talking about! When paired with our fall foliage's these sepia tones bring a subtle warmth. -Darcy
