Valentine's Day Gifting Ideas

Posted by on

Ah Valentine's. No, it wasn't invented by Hallmark. But yes, we may have missed the point by cheesing it out a tad. I say, let's bring it back to the basics. As with all holidays, we are meant to remember something that we usually take for granted or forget about; the Christmas holidays are a time for giving to those we love and those less fortunate, Father's and Mother's Day is a time to remember just how much our parents do for us, Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks (and eat as much as we want without gaining weight, right? ha), and Valentine's Day is a day that reminds us to appreciate those we love.

It's important to remember that those who love us and those whom we love is worth a nod of appreciation. If you're like the mass of Americans who are ready to throw their hands up with roses and restaurants and chocolates, then pay attention.

Oh, and did I mention Galentine's Day; for your other soul mate? Thanks to Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) on Parks and Rec, we now have a legitimate reminder to spend some time with our girlfriends and celebrate them, too. If you want to get some ideas for great gifts for your bestie/s then sign up for my newsletter to get some. Top 5: Men to Women
Let's face it guys, it's hard to win on Valentine's Day. Restaurants are overpriced, roses and so over the top dopey, but ignoring that holiday will only get you into more trouble. Women want you to appreciate them in a thoughtful and mindful and personal way that doesn't feel forced or cliché. It seems daunting. Here are 5 ultimate gift ideas that your girlfriend won't dismiss and you won't feel like you've sacrificed any anti-conformist integrity. And, girls don't be shy, if your man doesn't read blogs then send them this post to give them a little nudge.
Valentine's Day Men to Women Gifts
Bestowe Relax and Restore Gift Box //  Bestowe Body and Spirit Gift Box // Tulsi Scarf in the Bestowe To Be Loved Gift Box  // Morrow Throw // Jenny Knit Co. Throw

  1. The Experience: Can't decide what to get her? Why not get something the both of you can use? What is one thing you like to do together? Celebrate the holiday doing that. Everyone loves a good experience. But make sure it's out of the ordinary. Try to avoid the obvious, like a movie or dinner. Making it something you don't normally do is going to make it special. Take them on a hike, a picnic, a bike ride, get tickets for a comedy show or theater, a cooking class, sky-diving, skiing, or to a spa. You both win and you'll have a great time doing it. Spend the money on the activity and not the extraneous stuff.
  2. Cook Them Dinner: Restaurants can be expensive on Valentine's day and overbooked. Make her a meal that you both know  you'll like. Ask her in advance what types of foods she likes best if you don't know yet. And don't forget about the dessert.
  3. Restorative Bath Set: Bestowe has the perfect set just for you. It's our Relax and Restore box; complete with a full-body Turkish towel, bath salts, rose-hip oil, a small artisan ceramic tray and palo santo sticks that burn like incense. If you prefer though, make up your own! Here are my suggestions: 1. get her something to wear (a robe, lovey undies, around the home cashmere sweater) and pair that with bath items from your local store (bath salts, bath sponge, candles, etc).
  4. A Beautiful Scarf: Forget the jewelry. Honestly, unless you know you're lady really well, jewelry is hard to pick from. You might find yourself up the river again. Buy her a neutral scarf that she can wear instead of jewelry. I have the perfect one in my To Be Loved box. The story behind the art on the scarf is something that she will love and doubles as thoughtful. Don't be shy, tell her that it was made by well-supported artisans in India who have been block printing for generations. More than wearing it for show, she will love to tell her ogling girlfriends the story behind it.
  5. A Day in Bed: Tell your girl that you want to spend all day in bed with her. Buy an amazing bottle of champagne some delicious scones and the softest woven textural blanket out there. She'll love it!

Top 5: Women to Man
For some reason Valentine's Day has fallen on the man for as long as existence. But come on ladies, you have to dish out the love too! Follow along and I think you may spark some ideas here.

  2. Satin Sheets: This is the type of thing that men don't really ever buy for themselves and I'm sure they'll appreciate the subtle suggestion of cuddling up in them with you.
  3. Travel Kit: You could fill it with goodies like his favorite treat or delicious smelling body product. Maybe pair it with a night away for the two of you so he can use it. Bestowe has the best canvas dopp kit in our Freshen Up box. It comes with smooth feeling socks and some body soap that smells as manly as the outdoors.
  4. Mixology Kit: This is kind of a fun. Now, you could go out and get drinks, or instead have a special drink at home with some new tools that he'll be stoked to have in his pad. Get a nice tumbler, bottle opener, leather coasters and his favorite liquor + some amazing bitters (all the rage). You could even throw in a cool like drink recipe card so he can make the concoction again.
  5. A Watch: Watches are coming back. Not everyone wants to be tied to their phone all of the time (and it's kind of taboo to break out a phone in the middle of a meeting or date to check on anything let alone the time). A watch speaks to timelessness, classiness and thoughtfulness.
